Yahtzee's review of the new Mario game really annoyed me.
As anyone knows by now, he hates the wii. For most of the same reasons I do. There is no point in me reiterating them for the thousandth time, so I won't.
Needless to say, he hated this game. Fine. But one reason stuck out as hypocritical.
He disliked that Nintendo is taking a step backwards and basically remaking Mario 3.
Ironically, the main reason he hates Nintendo is cause of how far they have strayed from their original path/audience. Now they have finally made a game that actually appeals to Nintendo fans, and he complains because of it? Make up your mind. That's the same reason I like this game.
Yea, I like the new Mario game. It's better than Mario64/Sunshine/Galaxy put together. Graphically, it's nice, but could be better (see Four Swords for Cube at least)
But not better than Little Big Planet. LBP brought the genre forward with pseudo-3D layers, actual 3D graphics, a level editor with online level sharing, online multiplayer, physics, and makes the game expandable with downloadable content.
The new Mario game? None of that. Nintendo has firmly sat on their hands, and ignored years of advancement in the genre. Worse, a hacker has released a level editor the day the game came out, proving Nintendo could have done it.
Even worse, it's like Nintendo never even played LBP. They have no clue how to handle real multiplayer. Each character can manipulate the others at all times. Unlike LBP when it's only slapping and grabbing, you can run into and push other players off edges, jump off their heads (usually by accident, screwing them over)
And for Nintendo's worst contribution to gaming, besides the Wii and DS themselves, super-guide. Where you put the game on auto-pilot and it plays itself for you. Thus removing the sense of accomplishment from the game. It's the anti-achievement/trophy system.
And my last complaint, the controls. It annoyingly ignores gamecube and Wii classic controllers. Worse, it uses motion controls instead of a button to pick stuff up and spin-jump. Even worse, you can pick mecha-koopas up in one level without the motion controls, showing us that Nintendo went out of their way to make the motion controls annoying.
What I really like: infinite continues, the bubble "safe-zone" system for cowards (Press A in multiplayer), when you enter a door/pipe the other players don't have to do anything as they'll be sucked in, the top of the flag pole gets you a 1UP. At least they copied LBP's multiplayer revival system (bubbles) and actually made it better by making the checkpoint come to you.
Why don't Yoshis work the way they did in Mario World?
My final complaint of the day: Why does Phantom Boredom glass with it's horrible controls, have online multiplayer. But Spirit Tracks with it's improved controls does not?
Just like Minish Cap should have done, Spirit Tracks should have included the multiplayer stuff from the game before it, thus increasing the amount of people who could have used it. Multiplayer only works when lots of people have it. Releasing a sequel without it, kills off the previous game (see Left4Dead2) Multiplayer in Spirit Tracks is so bareboned and boring, I will never use it again. What I'd pay to see, is a port of Gamecube's Four Swords (including Tetra's Trackers) on DS.

Spirit Tracks also has coin collecting for pete's sakes. Could it be any
more old-phogeyish if they tried?
Not only did the new Star Trek movie get the uniform colors wrong, but they
had zippers! Zippers are supposed to be dead!

There's stamp collecting... Combined with the train crap means the game is
for 50 year old hobbyists... It's like Nintendo completely lost all sense of
what is actually fun.
Then again, Phantom Boredomglass proved that with the dungeon you repeat a
minimum of 7 times. And Wind Waker with the map collecting, hours of boring
sailing. Pokemon with the 6 hour quest to find Feebas on a single randomly
selected tile. But I digress.
There's bunny collecting, which I have absolutely no complaints about. It's
like Pokemon, only you use a canon!
There's a monster in a tunnel scene that seems straight out of Uncharted 2
(which is a good thing, except that the 2 good things I'm mentioning here
are copied from other games! Then again, Miyamoto is such an asshole that he
probably doesn't play competitors games, which explains why he hasn't
evolved with the rest of the industry over the past decade and still refuses
to admit more processing power means the game engine can do more. Yes I know
this is odd coming from someone who used to claim she was the founding
member of Miyamoto's bitches) I'm not enjoying this part the fifth time
through since the aiming sucks compared to uncharted, where in uncharted I'd
purposely fail just to get the chance to replay the part. The monster just
takes too many damned hits to kill it. Got it! Oki, that wasnt that bad.
Why, after Twilight Princess, do they have us killing WOLVES? That'd be like
killing bunnies in Link to the Past.
They still use those horribly obvious puzzles where it's "draw this on a
map, then follow it" which is better than uncharted's "RTFM" puzzles.

I got the modern warfare 2 prestige edition, or rather, the night vision
goggles that came with some free game.
I regret buying them, but it goes with the collection I suppose.
I wouldnt mind the locker that comes with that NBA game, but I hate sports
games.
The goggles arent that good either, a low res, small LCD makes it seem like
you're looking through a small window, so your field of vision is restricted
to the point where you have to walk slowly with a hand out. Might as well
not be wearing them. Takes 5 AAs, which is more than I have (1 is more than
I have) being that it's 7.5 volts, I can't even use 2 PSP batteries. The
fricken battery door uses a damned screw too. And finally, it has a dead
pixel too.
I was wondering why it used a color LCD since it let you switch between B&W
and greenscale modes, well in daylight you can see in color, it only
switches to monochrome when you're in the dark.
Got Zelda Spirit Tracks. Waited an hour in EB for it, they didnt get it. The
retarded delivery boy delivered it to Zellers instead. So I got it at
another store (which had the goggles from above)
On one hand, it's a new Zelda game!
On the other hand, it's a new way for Nintendo to show me they don't want me
playing their games anymore, or rather show me they shouldn't be making
games anymore.
What I hate
-Textures still look like ass
-It's still 2.5D when Mario64DS proves DS can do full 3D just fine
-They like pointing out Link is some retarded 8 year old. Nintendo says
giving Link a voice would ruin the whole everyman aspect, where Link is the
player. You know what ruins that? Making him a God-damned kid. Oh, and kids
don't drive trains. Immersion ruined right there. Nintendo liked to talk
about how the bomb store in Wind Waker wouldn't sell bombs to kids. But
you'll give them trains now?
-The same horrible touchscreen controls are back, and no hint of dpad
controls. So you still can't move and use items at the same time.
-The same damned you-draw-everything map is back
-Worse, now a lot is controlled by blowing in the mic (of course I am sick
with something that makes it hard to breath right now)
-Why do I have to plot a course when you still give me the choice of
switching tracks when I get to them anyway? Yes the autopilot is nice, but
make it optional or something
-The boring-ass sailing is now boring-ass train controlling. So what was a
lame-ass way of making a real overworld, but still having some exploration,
has been reduced to a glorified Mario 3 level map that only those who grew
up in japan would appreciate.
What I like
-The extremely inaccurate way of somersaulting was replaced with double
tapping
-The time limit on the central dungeon is gone
-You no longer have to repeat parts of the central dungeon over and over
again
In conclusion
-I put up with Phantom Boredomglass, I can put up with this.

I obtained Ace Combat for my ipod.
Right off the bat the quality from the PSP version is gone, the voiced narrator was replaced with text.
"Aircraft fly level when the red circle stay center of the circle" is bad grammar.
The text looks funny.
Controls are so bad I timed out of the first mission ON EASY. Simply unplayable.
The accelerometer does not make a good analog stick replacement cause no one is retarded enough to attach the tv to the joystick so it moves around when you use the stick.
They have you rotate the ipod to turn, well why didn't they rotate the screen?

I don't want to see a new input type for next gen consoles, DS and Wii proved all that becomes is a gimmick which destroys gaming altogether... I want to see a new output type.
I remember when Nintendo lied and claimed the Wii would be a revolution and I said to Cam that the only thing I would classify as a revolution, is directional force feedback. ie: A controller that could move itself in any direction, which would pretty much have to rely on the gyroscopic effect/force. This would be able to spin/turn the controller, but would it be able to push it?
I remember when Sony got sued so they couldn't use rumble, and I posted a link to some technology Sony made where they apply a voltage to your ears, and it throws off your balance, so it makes you feel like you're tilting when you're not. This'd be perfect for driving games (hell I'd buy a driving game that uses this, though I'd prefer some virtual rollercoaster game or something)
Sony making PS3 display true 3D images next year is going to be awesome, except for the whole buying a new TV crap...
And since Nintendo proved it's stupid to try to get rid of or replace dual analog, I'd like to see some force feedback on the analog sticks/triggers. This could be done via simple motors/magnets. Putting force feedback on the buttons themselves would be pointless.
Putting a speaker in the controller, bad/stupid/pointless idea, nor did Nintendo do it first. MS did, and they did it right by having a headset port in the controller. Why didn't Sega have headphone ports in controllers when they had 1 on the console, and 2 controller ports? We'll never know... It's not rocket science, your system supports 2 people. Controllers are closer to the player than the console. Put a damned headphone port on the controller! That, and don't have easily bendable, breakable pins on the more expensive component (ie: the console) I've seen many a Genesis with broken controller pins. Yes I know about the volume dial thing, just add one to the bottom of the controller.
Obviously my ideas would use a lot more power than normal controllers. Well we can't go back to wired, but we generate some power ourselves. They have ways of extracting energy from the heat in our hands, maybe our own electrical field. A new low powered bluetooth module was announced a while ago that could last a year on a watch battery (they even showed PS3s controller as an example of tech that would benefit from it) Concidering how perfectly MS did this on the 360, Sony was stupid NOT to have copied it. Hell, they could have used PSP's headsets and sold more. Even used the remotes to control custom soundtracks in game. (Then again, Sony was stupid enough not to copy custom sountracks properly too...)

For those of you who dont understand why Sony made memory stick when SD
existed:
I can take any memory stick and it works in any memory stick using device
(so long as it takes sticks of that size of course)
SD. Not so much. Just bought a 4 GB card. Doesnt work in my camera, DS,
though it does work in the Wii.

"The fundamental issue in the logic flow is that — and this is what I'm hearing, whether it's from you or Geoff or Michael himself — is that, gosh it's such an opportunity to take HD capability and link it with the Wii. The way we at Nintendo do things is, you know, when we will move to a new generation, it's because there are some fundamental things the [current] console cannot do"
Good ol'Nintendo, still outright lying to consumers about processing power.
You'd think someone who works for a game development company would know more processing power means you can do more.
And no, RE4 does not prove Wii can do GTA4

Rumor has it the DS2 will run on the nVidia Tegra2 chipset, which would actually make it more powerful than PSP. I'd consider buying it if it had either an optical medium like UMD or came built in with 64 GB of flash or more...

Been trying for hours to get my PSP controlled by an Ace Combat flight stick for said game.
Desktop, running vista, failed:
refuses to install drivers for PS2 flightstick, says files are in use no matter how new they are
360 flightstick drivers do not work for the throttle-half of the controller
PSP type-B drivers installed correctly
remotejoylite succeeds in sending data to the PSP
UMPC 2, running XP, failed:
PS2 flight stick installed correctly

remotejoylite seems to be using a unicode font instead of ASCII, so no text appears in the program

PSPgo launched in japan, sold 1/7 that PSP slim did during it's launch. And has already received a $20 price drop on amazon. As I predicted, Go is a certifiable flop. Next time you make a PSP, don't piss off the people who own 5 of em, and over 40 games!
Then again, I had GBC/GBA/GBASP/NES/SNES/N64/GCN and Nintendo got away with pissing me off with the DS/DSi/Wii...
I won 2 peripherals on ebay today (well, yesterday now)
1 being the super robot wars controller I bought off a website months ago, who didnt even have it but felt it was oki to take my money anyway. They have promised a refund, we shall see...
2 being the WonderBorg. A bug-like robot, controllable and programmable by the WonderSwan. It cost me $68. It also comes with a B&W WonderSwan, which I can probably ebay the WS off for $30.
I thought it was super rare, but I see another one ebay for $70
All I need now is a WonderWitch, and I have everything of relevance for the WonderSwan.

All I need now is a WonderWitch, and I have everything of relevance for the WonderSwan.

Tried The Conduit for Wii.
Controls:
Absolutely horrible.
It uses the pointer for turning, so the screen is very jumpy.
It's makes it a lot harder to make headshots than dual-analog does.
Worse, when you try to turn fast (by pointing far to the side on the wiimote), it will lock up and do nothing! The IR sensor system doesn't have a large enough field of vision to be used for this.
Buttons for things you do a lot (ie: reloading) are hard to reach.
Time Crisis for PS3 is still the best way to control an FPS with a lightgun setup. And it looks like it always will be since Sony was stupid enough to not put an analog stick on their motion controller...
Graphics:
They claimed it's on par with PS3/360. Is it? Obviously not. Wii is just not capable of it.
The textures are low res, corpses disappear. The only thing I could possibly think they were talking about was post processing effects. And even then all they really did was add a blur effect when you reload.
Gameplay:
I gave up playing after the tutorial level due to the controls. They are just that bad.
They could have solved everything by using the classic/gamecube controller or USB KB/mouse.
